Case study: Students in the driver's seat at Clontarf
Clontarf Aboriginal College is an urban secondary school in WA. The school has a range of programs in place to address academic, vocational and life skills including a driver education program with the Police and Citizens Youth Centre, three local Rotary Clubs, and the Royal Automobile Club of WA to tackle the unsafe and unlicensed driving practices that many students were engaging in. The program provides training for students to pass the P-plate test through comprehensive safter-driver education and the required minimum supervised driving. Since winning an Impact Award in 2009, the partnership has delivered 251 driving lessons to 79 students, and all Year 12 students have graduated with either their L-plate or P-plate driving licence. Seventy percent of students have passed their driving test at their first attempt, where the state average is 33
percent. Read more about this partnership.
