Student Award applications open Monday, 9 May!

Applications for the NAB Schools First Student Award open online at 9.00am (AEST) on Monday, 9 May 2011 and close at 5.00pm (AEST) on Friday, 27 May 2011. The award recognises and rewards student led school-community partnership ideas. There are five (5) awards available with each winning application receiving $2,000 to help implement their school-community partnership idea, mentoring opportunities, support from the NAB Schools First team and an Apple iPad for the student. Partnership Forums heading to NT and regional VIC and NSW

The NAB Schools First Partnership Forums are heading to NT and regional VIC and NSW over the next month before winding up at the end of May. The forums will provide attendees with a chance to learn more about NAB Schools First in 2011, including the awards criteria and application process. Click here for details and to register . NAB employees to run Information Sessions

In addition to the Partnership Forums taking place across Australia, a number of enthusiastic NAB employees involved in NAB Schools First are volunteering their time to run Information Sessions about the program in their local area. The informal sessions will cover the NAB Schools First program and the awards available in 2011. Sessions being held are dependent on NAB employees volunteering their time to run them, so are not being held in every State/Territory. Click here for details and to register.

Support and advice helping partnerships grow

Antoinette Totta not only works in Human Resources at NAB, she also provides support to the Seed Funding Award winning partnership between Reservoir High School and its community partners, Planet Give Foundation Trust and the Salvation Army. The partnership provides a homework support group for students in Years 7-9. Antoinette provides guidance and advice around program structure and content, and has assisted in linking the partnership with NAB's Digital Team to help develop online support tools for the program. There are over 1,200 NAB employees involved in NAB Schools First, including over 190 Relationship Managers like Antoinette whose role is to support our award winning partnerships. Proudly supporting National Volunteer Week

National Volunteer Week kicks off from Monday, 9 May 2011 to Sunday, 15 May 2011, and NAB is proud to be sponsoring this initiative for the fifth year. But NAB's support of volunteering extends beyond its sponsorship, with NAB employees volunteering over 10,000 days in communities across Australia in 2010. Since 1998, NAB has provided employees with two days volunteer leave per year and has built relationships with over 350 community organisations who require assistance with volunteers. With over 20,000 NAB employees available to provide skilled and unskilled volunteering, community organisations who could benefit from the contribution of NAB employees are encouraged to get involved. Dancing into classrooms with NAB

Last month, NAB launched its partnership with The Australian Ballet's lead education program 'Out There: The Australian Ballet in Schools'. The program is designed to give young students the opportunity to participate in and value dance as a form of learning, artistic expression and entertainment. Delivered by a specially trained Dance Education Ensemble and devised to complement the core values of the overall curriculum, NAB's support of 'Out There' will see more than 70 primary schools from regional and metropolitan areas of VIC, NSW, SA and QLD take part in the workshops in 2011.Participating students, aged 5-12, will be involved in a range of activities, demonstrations and discussions and will experience a series of interactive demonstrations designed to foster movement skills and promote fitness.
