No Spring Sprung
What happened to our lovely spring? If anyone finds it please bring it back!
While we are waiting it pleases me to share our latest music news and offers. There is much happening in our neck of the woods, we hope you will check out some of it.
Enjoy the news...
The Black Sorrows :: Crooked Little Thoughts
The record starts with Joe Camilleri singing, “Now tell me what’s that sound that makes the world go ’round …”
He’s been making music for more than 45 years, but Joe Camilleri has never released an album quite like this.
Even though they’re brand new songs, Crooked Little Thoughts sounds like a Joe Camilleri best-of, taking us on a trip through all of his music loves: pop, rock, blues, jazz, soul, country and gospel.
Twenty-four sparkling new songs, three CDs and a deluxe book featuring artwork by acclaimed Australian artist Victor Rubin … welcome to Crooked Little Thoughts, The Black Sorrows’ first album in five years.
Now set to be ready to blow you away this December.
Wangaratta Festival of Jazz & Blues
Jazzhead and Wangaratta go together well, we have to say.
With many artists, (ok, not just Jazzhead artists, we do have to say!) performing in various ensembles and venues it will be an incredible 4 days.
The long awaited return of the mightyBarney McAll, performing in a new ensemble will be an experience not to miss -dual pianos and a 16 voice choir! Their release entitled GRAFT will available instores (and online) at the end of November. Sample tracks and info will be up very soon now.
Allan Browne, Andrea Keller, Jamie Oehlers, Dale Barlow, Paul Williamson, Mike Nock, Nick Haywood, Howard Cairns and Zac Hurren all with supremo sounds and releases through Jazzhead!
Barney McAll's Graft will feature dual-piano partnership of Andrea Keller and McAll with sonic wizard Dale Gorfinkel and Gian Slater’s acclaimed 16-piece choir Invenio. Incredible.
Graft seeks to respond in musical terms to the complexity of urban life in all its horror, beauty and strange, occasional calm– the accidental, inevitable surgery of the modern world, where humanity is implanted with technology and industry.
Graft will be launched at Wangaratta with the album release hot on the heels in November.
Jazzhead soon to present 2 new digital-only albums.
Barney McAll's Recollections is a spectacular collection of fastidiously selected past works of Barney McAll. 11 select tracks have been remastered and brought together for the first time, from across five incredible albums and chosen by McAll.
And Blueprints, featuring previously unreleased works. Barney after all these years decided it might be interesting to hear some of his musical process and so, has put together some new pieces never before heard - 'stepping stones' to his progress as a player and composer.
Set for a digital launch to coincide with Barney's Graft release. Keep you posted!
Upcoming New Release :: Nick Haywood Quartet : 1234
Nick Haywood has for so long been such an important contributor to so many different ensembles on the Australian music scene, especially in Melbourne. Finally with this release he shows all the skills that are sometimes needed when leading a session to create such wonderful music.
A terrific recording from this quartet led by Nick Haywood. It was worth the wait.
Nick Haywood - Bass / Stephen Magnusson - Guitar / Colin Hopkins - Piano / Allan Browne - Drums
A Wangaratta Festival launch with CD release October 31 Cover Art Painting by Nellie Gibson
Upcoming New Release :: Rob Burke Quartet : Live At Bennetts Lane
This ensemble, which has been performing together for over 15 years has focused on the development of group empathy and a definitive ensemble sound.
This CD was recorded over a 3-year period in the front room at Bennetts Lane Jazz Club, hence the homage in the title "Live At Bennetts Lane"– Melbourne, Australia. The selection of tracks was guided by the level of creativity within the performances of the group with compositions by Rodgers and Hart and Cole Porter alongside compositions by the Quartet.
Robert Burke – tenor and soprano sax/Tony Gould - Piano/Nick Haywood - Bass/Tony Floyd – Drums
Live At Bennetts Lane will be released and launched in November.
